Neck liposuction can give you the slimmed, smoothed neck you’ve always wanted. By removing excess fat, the procedure tightens and tones your chin and jaw for beautiful results and the elimination or significant reduction of a double chin or jowls.
The Neck Liposuction Procedure
Excess fat in the neck area beneath the chin can give individuals the appearance of having a double chin or jowls. Not only do these features frequently cause self-image issues, but they can also be bothersome and uncomfortable.
Fortunately, neck liposuction (also known as double chin removal) can take care of this issue. With neck liposuction, Dr. Aghayan will create a more defined jawline by suctioning out excess fat and smoothing the neck. The result will be a slimmer, tauter profile and increased overall comfort.
Benefits of Neck Liposuction
You can look forward to the following benefits with neck liposuction.
Incisions must be made during this procedure. However, they are usually minor and will be placed just below the jaw line or in the natural folds of the skin. This will make them difficult to notice after healing, and they will fade and soften even more with time.
Likely the biggest benefit of neck liposuction is the renewed sense of confidence and assuredness you’ll feel with your new facial profile. Not only will this procedure make your neck slimmer and smoother, but you’ll also feel younger and more confident, which is worth a great deal.
Ideal Candidates for Neck Liposuction
Those who will benefit most from neck liposuction are those with excess fat beneath the chin. Perhaps you’ve always struggled with a “double chin” or jowls on the jawline, or these features may have become a recent disturbance due to aging. Neck liposuction can take care of a small or substantial amount of fat in this area.
In order to be a quality candidate for this procedure, it is important that you are at a healthy, stable weight and lead a healthy lifestyle with a good diet and regular exercise. This will help you maintain optimal results after your surgery.
How to Prepare for Neck Liposuction
If you’ve been researching neck liposuction and think it may be a good procedure for you, begin by booking a consultation appointment at Après Plastic Surgery.
At this appointment, it’s a good idea to bring with you any questions or concerns you may have about the procedure. Tell Dr. Aghayan what it is you’d like to improve about your neck area. He will examine you closely to determine whether neck liposuction, a neck lift, a combination of these two procedures, or another procedure will be best for you.
He’ll also want to discuss your medical history with you, so be sure to bring any pertinent documents, including a list of all medications and supplements you are taking. In some cases, Dr. Aghayan will request that you undergo additional lab tests or examinations prior to surgery.
If it is determined that neck liposuction is indeed the right procedure for you, Dr. Aghayan will book your surgery and provide you with additional preparation steps to follow.
Neck Liposuction Procedure Details
Neck liposuction is typically performed under general anesthesia. During the procedure, Dr. Aghayan will start by making a small incision in a discreet location beneath the jawline. He will then use a thin tube called a cannula to suction away the excess fat.
In some cases, a tumescent technique, which is also known as “superwet”, will be used. This procedure mixes an anesthetic medication with another solution, which is then utilized during the surgery to help reduce bleeding.
After removing the excess fat from the neck, Dr. Aghayan will conclude the procedure by carefully closing the incision with small sutures.
Possible Neck Liposuction Risks and Complications
Although most neck liposuction patients do not experience any complications or significant side effects, it’s always important to understand your potential risks before undergoing surgery. These include:
What Is Recovery From Neck Liposuction Like?
Once your surgery has been completed, we’ll monitor you for a short period before you’ll be ready to go home. Plan ahead by asking a friend or family member to drive you. Some swelling is to be expected immediately after your procedure, so be sure to take it easy and wear the compression garment you’ll be provided with.
Depending on whether you elected to have other procedures performed at the same time as your neck lift, recovery times may vary. When performed by itself, neck liposuction usually does not require an extensive recovery period. You’ll be able to see notable improvement within a few weeks, and after a few months, your final results should be visible.
Some patients may choose to combine neck liposuction with complementary procedures such as the following.
Many men and women who would benefit from neck liposuction would also benefit from a neck lift, or lower rhytidectomy. Unlike neck liposuction, a neck lift removes excess skin from the neck area. Often, both of these procedures are combined for optimal results.
Facial Fat Grafting
When loss of volume and other signs of aging in the face become issues, facial fat grafting can produce amazingly natural results. The process takes excess fat from another part of the body and moves it to the face, producing a plumper, more youthful appearance.
BOTOX® injections treat fine lines and wrinkles on the face — especially dynamic wrinkles, which are those caused by facial movements. BOTOX® relaxes and softens these lines, revealing smoother, more even skin.
Neck Liposuction FAQ
These are the most common questions we receive about neck liposuction.
Should I get a neck lift or neck liposuction?
The best way to know whether a neck lift or neck liposuction is best for you is to book a consultation appointment with Dr. Aghayan. In general, however, it matters what exactly is causing the appearance of your double chin or jowls.
If it is primarily excess fat, this is where neck liposuction will work the best. On the other hand, if excess, sagging skin is the primary issue, a neck lift may be warranted. In some cases, patients may choose to have both procedures performed.
What is the difference between neck liposuction and KYBELLA® injections?
KYBELLA® is an injectable that’s also used to treat the appearance of double chins. The main difference between KYBELLA® and neck liposuction is that KYBELLA® targets only small pockets of fat, and liposuction can handle more substantial fat deposits.
Therefore, if you have a lot of excess fat on your neck that you’d like to get rid of, liposuction may be the better choice for you. It’s also important to remember that liposuction is invasive, and KYBELLA® is not. In this case, if you’d like to avoid surgery and scarring, you may decide to go with KYBELLA®.
Naturally, Dr. Aghayan will present you with all of your viable options at your consultation appointment.
Does neck liposuction leave scars?
Any procedure involving incisions will inevitably leave scars. However, Dr. Aghayan will do everything possible to make sure all liposuction incisions are located discreetly. This will make them barely noticeable after healing.
Dr. Aghayan will discuss the placement of your incisions with you at your consultation appointment. Most incisions will be placed just below the jaw line or in the natural folds of the skin.
After your procedure, in order to help your incisions heal optimally, it’s important to follow the postoperative care instructions you receive. Ultimately, scarring will fade and soften with time.
How long does neck liposuction last?
Liposuction of any kind physically removes fat cells from the body. These fat cells will not regrow. They are permanently gone.
This means your results should last for a substantial amount of time — likely between five and 10 years, or ideally, longer. Unfortunately, the natural aging process and a combination of time and gravity will inevitably begin to alter your results, and slowly over time, you may notice a return of submental fat and sagging skin beneath the neck.
Of course, there are always opportunities to undergo additional neck liposuction down the line or to try an alternative double chin removal method such as a neck lift or KYBELLA® injections.
